This 3KV opto/galvanic isolated auto transmit unit, features bi-directional serial conversion from USB to RS485 in 2 wire half duplex mode.

Optimized for isolated indoor/outdoor point to point or multi-drop systems. We recommend this unit for outdoor sign applications. For indoor, or protected installations, the non-isolated USBA4, and USB44T are excellent choices.

The SP485EEP driver allows 32 standard loads at 4000 ft. at data rates up to 921.6 Kbps. It has high ESD tolerance as one of the many protection features we have built into this unit.

3KV opto/galvanic isolation, isolation resistors, comm fuses, a transcient suppressor bridge, and grounding options complete a protection package that helps insulate the device from destructive electrical noise.

Fast auto turn-around, from transmit to receive mode, requires no software delays and eliminates timing problems and data collisions. Jumper JSPD further shortens the turn-around time for fast responding target devices. We pioneered and perfected this leading edge technology.

Jumpers enable the user to configure the transmit and receive bias and termination resistors, enable loop-back mode, and boost the +5 Volts if the USB provided voltage is low. Refer to the schematic for details.

A 4 pin header and jumpers J7 and J8 provide a TTL/CMOS tap point to enable TTL/CMOS to RS485/USB conversion.

Edge mounted LEDs display power and data activity at the USB and RS485 interfaces.

User connections are a USB type B receptacle, a 3 position removable screw terminal strip for the RS485 port, and a 4 pin header for TTL/CMOS. There is no external power connector. Device power is obtained through the USB port.

Four(4) easy mount through hole standoffs, which accept #6 hardware, are provided on the circuit board.

The required "Virtual Com Port" USB driver, for the host computer, is available from www.ftdichip.com under "Drivers". This web site provides drivers for most host operating systems. Some OS's will automatically search for, find, and install the appropriate software/driver.
