General Description:

The IICS485 "SPIDER" is an automatic repeater that expands an RS-485 serial communication network by increasing its maximum distance and number of nodes. The repeater connects TEN RS-485 lines and transfers data in both directions on each line. On receiving data from one line, the repeater automatically regenerates and retransmits the data on the other lines. Data is transferred at the bit level so all formats are supported and with nearly no delays. Each of the 10 lines has it's own set of control jumpers that can be used to manually enable it's RX and/or TX capabilities, adjust the bias and add termination. Protection for the overall network is provided through isolation on each of the lines. In addition the IICS485 has a built-in controller on its own additional line that can be communicated with in RS485 or RS232. On this channel a microprocessor adds the ability to fully control the communication capability of any of the 10-RX and 10-TX lines through simple commands. In addition an adjustable watch dog timer function is available that can reset the lines back to any given state if communications time-out. The controller also adds the ability to multiplex the serial lines which can give addressability to non-addressable units or individual access to duplicate addresses. Because of the unique design of the IICS485, different makes, models and protocals can be networked and communicated with, through one comm port. Powerup and timeout settings are jumper selectable and can be set to restore at fixed settings or settings that have been stored in the EEPROM. The EEPROM settings are stored in non-volatile ram, through simple commands. For even greater flexability, Communications on the board can also be functionally split in half, by removing two jumpers. This turns the unit into a double, 5 channel repeater. Plus the lines could still be controlled by the micro-controller. All the repeater lines and controller circuitry can be powered by a single supply with an output in the range of 9 to 35VDC at 5 watts max.
